This 700-HP Toyota Starlet Can Run a Nine-Second Quarter-Mile

This front-wheel drive Toyota hatch can hang with any new supercar on the drag strip.

The Starlet is a fun little Toyota hatch, but speed isn't what it's known for. This one's been modified to perform in a straight line, and it makes over 700 horsepower from a tiny inline-four. It also sounds wonderful.

According to the VeeDubRacing YouTube channel, this Starlet packs a 1.6-liter 4AGE under the hood, equipped with a 66-millimeter Garrett GTX3582 turbocharger. The combo makes a total of 713 horsepower and 407 lb-ft of torque, which is all sent to the front wheels. Thanks to a set of massive drag radials, it doesn't have much of a problem with wheel spin.

The car was able to set a quickest time of 9.46 seconds in the quarter-mile at 150 mph. Anything under 10 seconds is monstrously quick—most new supercars have trouble crossing the double-digit barrier. So we'd say this little front-wheel drive Toyota hatch is pretty capable.
