Miata race cars are great, but do you know what's better? Miata race cars with V-8s. That's exactly the kind of car we have here, and it's for sale right now on Craigslist. You should buy it.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

This car started out as a normal 1994 NA-generation Miata before being converted into the V-8-powered track weapon you see here. The engine is a Lexus 1UZ-FE, the same motor found in the '90s LS400 and SC400. It's mounted into the car via a V8 Roadsters subframe, sending power to a clutch-type limited-slip differential in the rear via a five-speed manual transmission sourced from a Nissan 240SX. There's also suspension and sway bars from MSM, Hawk DTC60 spec Miata brake pads, and poly-urethane bushings all around.

Inside, you'll find a welded-in roll bar, a pair of bucket seats, five-point harnesses, a Momo steering wheel with a quick-release mechanism, and a roll-bar-mounted dash cam that records whenever the car is turned on. The vented hood is fiberglass, and the trunk lid is carbon fiber.

The car is currently listed on Craigslist in central Los Angeles, California with an asking price of just $9000. That's about how much it costs to own a spec Miata, but spec Miatas don't have V-8s. The downside is, you won't be able to compete in Spec Miata races. But we have a feeling that V-8 exhaust note will make up for that.
